Sergey Lavrov, Russia’s Foreign Minister, said that the US and its allies are seeking to interfere in Afghanistan’s fragile stability.
Speaking at the second Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security, Lavrov stated that the US allies are looking for excuses to resume their military presence in Central Asian countries.
The Russian Foreign Minister stated that the US and its allies fled Afghanistan after a twenty-year occupation. He added that they now seek to involve themselves in Afghanistan’s fragile stability. Additionally, he mentioned that they are looking for reasons to resume their military presence in Central Asian countries.

Afghanistan’s Security Challenges
At the same meeting, Imangali Tasmagambetov, the secretary general of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), also made a claim. He stated that despite positive changes in Afghanistan, the threat of terrorism remains undiminished. He added that radical ideologies and organized drug trafficking in the region also continue to pose significant threats.
Imangali Tasmagambetov stated: “We are also pointing to other challenges, such as competition over natural resources. In this region, water issues, in particular, could lead to inter-state conflicts.”
The Islamic Emirate has yet to comment on these statements. However, it has consistently dismissed concerns about terrorism and narcotics issues in the country, asserting that it is combating these issues seriously.
Edris Mohammadi Zazai, a political analyst, stated that terrorism poses an international problem. He emphasized that the global community must stand alongside the Islamic Emirate to combat it and create opportunities for effective cooperation against terrorism.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Minister also highlighted the importance of maintaining constructive dialogue with Afghanistan’s current government, seeing it as beneficial to the country’s security, economic development, and national unity.
