7th International Taekwondo Championship
Amir Khan, a young taekwondo champion from Swat, secured a gold medal for Pakistan on August 11 at the 7th International Taekwondo Championship. The event took place in Bangkok, Thailand, from August 10 to 12. Over 3,000 athletes from various countries, including Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, the Philippines, China, Indonesia, and Malaysia, competed. Amidst this tough competition, Amir emerged victorious.
Amir’s journey to the top began with a victory against an Indian opponent in the first round. He continued his winning streak by defeating a Nepali competitor in the second round. In the final round, he faced a skilled athlete from the Philippines and triumphed, securing the gold medal for Pakistan.
MOOR1NG Tekken World Tour Challenge
In addition to Amir’s success, Pakistan’s Tekken star Dawood Sikandar claimed the MOOR1NG Tekken World Tour Challenger title in Madagascar. He secured a dominant 3-0 clean sweep in the final. With over a decade of competitive experience, Dawood is regarded as one of the best players in Pakistan’s Tekken community. His notable achievements include first-place finishes at Thaiger Uppercut 2022, UGP Sialkot 21, 7CG Cup 18, and PGA Cup 17, among others.
Asian Indoor Rowing Championship
Moreover, Pakistani athletes made their mark at the Asian Indoor Rowing Championship, winning an impressive 5 gold, 5 silver, and 2 bronze medals, further solidifying the country’s standing in the international sports arena.
Guinness World Record
Pakistani martial artist Irfan Mehsud broke two more Guinness World Records, previously held by Italy’s Marcello Ferri. Irfan surpassed Ferri’s record by lifting 40 pounds with his toe for an astounding 3 minutes and 20 seconds, compared to Ferri’s 1 minute and 32 seconds. Additionally, Irfan set a new world record by lifting 70 kg with his toe, a feat confirmed by the Guinness Book of World Records.
Irfan Mehsud is the first Pakistani to hold 100 Guinness World Records in just 8 years, having broken records from 16 different countries. His achievements have inspired 16 of his students to also set Guinness World Records. In recognition of his contributions, Irfan Mehsud was honored with the Presidential Award for Excellence in 2023.
