OIC Calls for Protection of Kashmiris in IIOJK

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has renewed its call for India to reverse all “illegal and unilateral actions” taken in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) since August 5, 2019. The international community, including the OIC, widely condemned India’s revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status on its fifth anniversary.

In a statement issued by the OIC General Secretariat, the organization emphasized the importance of respecting the internationally recognized status of Jammu and Kashmir. It reiterated that the measures taken by India in the occupied territory are a blatant violation of United Nations Security Council resolutions, international law, and the Fourth Geneva Convention. The OIC also underscored that these actions aim to alter the region’s demographic composition. India is settling non-Muslim communities in an effort to transform the Muslim majority into a minority.

Solidarity with Kashmir

The OIC expressed its unwavering solidarity with the people of Kashmir in their ongoing struggle for the right to self-determination. The organization affirmed that Indian tactics, including the unilateral revocation of Kashmir’s special status, cannot suppress the commitment of the Kashmiri people. It emphasized that their determination in the fight for freedom remains unwavering.

Furthermore, the OIC called on the international community to intensify efforts to resolve the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions. The organization also urged India to allow human rights organizations access to the territory. It highlighted the need for monitoring the ongoing violations, given India’s frequent portrayal of itself as a champion of human rights and democracy.

The OIC’s statement serves as a strong reminder of the ongoing human rights abuses in Illegally Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. It emphasizes the need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict that respects the will and rights of the people of Kashmir.
