A friendly Cricket Tournament between the FM Radio Outlets of Nangarhar Province of Afghanistan was organized by Independent Radio Association and Pak Afghan Youth Forum (PAYF), Kabul Chapter. The aim of this days’ long tournament was to create a strong liaison between the FM radios of Nangarhar, for long-term cooperation and coordination among themselves and with public diplomacy initiatives such as PAYF itself. The tournament attracted huge crowds of locals of Nangarhar and the energy was worth-watching.
A total of 11 local Radio Stations took part and competed as 11 teams in the 12 overs tournament and Dost Radio won the trophy. In the closing ceremony, certificates were distributed among all participants amidst loud claps and cheering from the crowd. Thanking and appreciating PAYF for sponsoring the trophy and the final matches, the Independent Radio Association presented PAYF with a certificate of gratitude and praise. The in-charge of Independent Radio Association of Nangarhar, Professor Shafiqullah Rahmani, expressed his sentiments that the spirit of the competition was to create good coordination between media and sports, and that this was very successfully demonstrated and established throughout the matches.
The Chairman of East Zone Cricket Board, Mr Niamat Alam, was also present at the closing ceremony and paid special thanks to PAYF for pulling out this event, which was a healthy entertainment for the locals of Nangarhar. Such local tournaments also help to bring out local talent in sports, especially cricket that is very popular all across Afghanistan.
The friendly Cricket Tournament came to an end, with amazing efforts of Inamullah Miakhil, the Media Coordinator of PAYF in Kabul. He successfully brought about all the coordination between East Zone Cricket Board and the Radio Association of Nangarhar. The tournament happened to be a success and served the purpose of harmony between media community and sports.
