Amu Darya Basin Oil Extraction Rises with 25 New Oil Wells

25 New oil wells in Amu Darya boost daily extraction to 3,000 tons, highlighting Afghanistan's resource potential and processing needs.

The Economic Deputy Office of the Prime Minister announced that 25 new oil wells will activate in the Amu Darya oil field. With this activation, daily oil extraction in the area will reach 3,000 tons.

Hamdullah Fitrat, the Deputy Spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate, stated that 24 active wells exist in this field. These wells currently extract 1,300 tons of oil daily.

According to Fitrat, the country itself processes the extracted oil.

Fitrat explained, “At present, we have 24 active wells that extract about 13.5 tons of oil. The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum plans to activate 25 new oil wells by the end of this year. This plan includes 18 new drills, 2 exploratory wells, and 5 rehabilitated wells.”

Meanwhile, some economic experts emphasize the need for officials to drill new wells based on a precise and measured plan. They also stress the importance of attracting investors for processing the extracted oil.

Abdul Zahoor Madaber, an economic expert, said: “Afghanistan is potentially rich in natural resources, but unfortunately we do not have modern machinery to process these resources. There is a need to cooperate with other countries for the import of processing equipment.”

Mohammad Asif Stanekzai, another economic expert, added: “The production and processing of natural resources can create job opportunities and have a positive impact on reducing inflation in Afghanistan.”

According to statistics from the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, domestic sources currently meet only 10 percent of Afghanistan’s oil needs.
