Misbahuddin Mustaeen, spokesperson for the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock, told TOLOnews that wheat production has increased over the past three years. It has risen from 3.5 million tons to 5 million tons annually.
He also mentioned that the government aims to support farmers and control wheat prices in the markets. The process of purchasing and storing surplus wheat from farmers is currently underway in eleven provinces of the country.

Government’s Wheat Purchase Initiative
The spokesperson added: “Afghanistan’s production was between 3 million to 3.5 million metric tons. Alhamdulillah, over the past three years, the Islamic Emirate has been able to increase wheat production with the help of farmers, and this year our production reached 5 million metric tons.”
Referring to the increase in wheat, Mustaeen said that following the decree of the leader of the Islamic Emirate regarding the purchase and storage of surplus wheat from farmers, the ministry plans to buy 38,000 tons of wheat from farmers in 13 provinces by the end of this year.
He stated that they will purchase approximately 38,000 tons from 13 provinces. They are currently conducting the purchasing process in 11 provinces. They plan to acquire the rest soon.
Shamsur Rahman Ahmadzai, an economic analyst, told TOLOnews: “This is a timely move by the government to purchase and store the available wheat in the market, as it will be a great service for the people during the winter. Many people cannot meet their basic needs due to economic difficulties.”
Earlier, the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock reported that they have distributed nearly 100,000 tons of improved seeds to farmers. They have also distributed 200,000 tons of chemical fertilizer. This distribution occurred following the leader of the Islamic Emirate’s decree and involved cooperation with domestic and foreign organizations.
