SC to take up 968 cases in first week under CJ Yahya Afridi

Supreme Court under new Chief Justice Yahya Afridi to hear 968 cases this week; full court meeting to address key reforms.

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court will hear nearly 1,000 cases this week, marking the first under Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, according to the cause list issued by the apex court. The court has scheduled a full meeting for Monday (28 October 2024).

All available judges of the Supreme Court will attend the full court, barring Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, who has proceeded to Saudi Arabia to perform Umran. Chief Justice Yahya Afridi will preside over the full court.

The Supreme Court has scheduled the full court meeting for 1 PM, during which the judges expect to make important administrative decisions. According to sources, the meeting will also consider judicial reforms. Chief Justice Afridi had called the full court immediately after taking oath of office on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court issued the cause list for the judicial week from October 28 to November 1. It scheduled 968 cases for hearing by eight regular benches. The first bench consists of Chief Justice Afridi and Justice Shahid Bilal Hasan. They will hear 140 cases in courtroom No. 1.

The cause list shows that the second bench, which includes Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Athar Manullah, will take up 140 cases. The third bench, consisting of Justice Aminuddin Khan and Justice Irfan Saadat Khan, will hear another 140 cases.

The fourth bench comprises Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel, Justice Musrat Hilali, and Justice Shahzad Ahmed Khan. They will take up 58 cases. The fifth bench consists of Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi. They will hear 140 cases.
