Massacre in Al-Tabi’in School of Gaza Strip: Israeli warplanes killed displaced Palestinians

The morning of August 8, like every morning in Gaza since October 7, was marked by sorrow. This time, Al-Tabi’in School in Gaza became the site of a massacre caused by Israeli warplane bombardment during Fajr prayer. The attack triggered a fire that ripped through the building whilst Palestinians were performing Fajar prayer, killing at least 100 Palestinians, including women, the elderly, and children and dozens wounded, according to preliminary reports.

Ismail al-Thawabta, head of the Government Media Office in Gaza, condemned the school ‘massacre,’ stating that the attack is ‘part of a broader campaign of genocide and ethnic cleansing against the Palestinian people.’ He also mentioned that the Israeli army used three bombs weighing 2,000 pounds (907 kg) each in its attack, citing Al Jazeera report.

KP Announces Establishment of Climate Change Cell to Combat Emerging Health Threats

On August 10, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Health Minister, Syed Qasim Ali Shah, announced the formation of a Climate Change Cell within the Health Department. This initiative aims to address the growing health challenges posed by climate-induced disasters such as floods and other natural calamities.

Monsoon-triggered floods have contaminated drinking water, leading to the spread of gastrointestinal diseases. Additionally, climate change has increased the prevalence of skin conditions and vector-borne diseases, including malaria, dengue, and leishmaniasis. Extreme heat and cold waves are also disproportionately affecting vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and women.

This initiative represents a crucial step toward enhancing the resilience of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s health sector against the impacts of climate change, ensuring better preparedness and response capabilities.
