Siros Amanollahi, commander of Iran’s Northeastern Ground Forces, announced his team will complete the border closure project with Afghanistan. The completion is expected in the next three years.
Siros Amanollahi also added that the project will extend 300 kilometers along the shared border between Khorasan Razavi and Afghanistan. Four engineering groups from the army’s ground forces are responsible for its implementation.
The commander of Iran’s Northeastern Ground Forces stated, “My team will complete the project to close the northeastern borders with Afghanistan in three years. We will achieve this through the efforts and capabilities of the army’s engineering groups. This project will cover a length of 300 kilometers along the shared border between Khorasan Razavi and Afghanistan. Experts Question Efficacy of Iran-Afghanistan Border Closure
Meanwhile, some military and political experts do not consider the establishment of a border closure between the two neighboring countries to be beneficial. They believe the two countries should foster good relations based on trust-building.
“Along the borders, in specific checkpoints, to prevent threats, they have the right to take action,” said Hadi Quraishi, a military expert.
“No wall or barrier anywhere in the world has been able to ensure the security and stability of any government. Rather, good governance and friendly relations with neighboring countries ensure border security,” said Fazl Rahman Orya, a political analyst.
Although the Islamic Emirate has not recently commented on this issue, it previously asserted that Iran has the right to implement the border closure project with Afghanistan. The Islamic Emirate is also coordinating the project.
