The IEA government congratulated the Syrian people on Sunday. It also congratulated the Islamist-led rebels after they declared they had taken Damascus and ousted President Bashar al-Assad.
A foreign ministry statement said, “We (the IEA) hope that the process of power transition will align with the aspirations of the Syrian people.” It added, “This will pave the path for the establishment of an independent and service-oriented Islamic government.” The statement also called for Syria to move forward free from external interference.
