Afghanistan’s Railway Transports 408,000 Tons of Goods in January

Afghanistan’s railway network facilitated the transportation of more than 408,000 metric tons of goods in January, as reported by the Ministry of Public Works.

The data reveals that the majority of shipments were handled through the Hairatan railway, which accounted for 302,327 tons. Other key railway routes contributed as follows: Aqina Railway, 27,045 tons, Torghondi Railway, 70,564 tons, Khawaf-Herat Railway, 8,940 tons.

In total, the ministry reported that 407,178 tons of petroleum and various other commodities were imported. Additionally, Afghanistan saw 1,698 tons of commercial exports, which included valuable products such as dried fruits, canola, rice, and pomegranate juice.

The Ministry of Public Works reaffirmed its commitment to improving railway infrastructure and enhancing facilities for traders, aiming to boost both imports and exports.

Comparatively, December 2023 (1403 fiscal year) Afghanistan’s railway saw a total of 452,133 tons of goods transported, alongside 777 tons of exports and transit shipments, highlighting a consistent effort to develop the railway sector.
