Woman Killed By Reckless Driver Inside Bahria Town Karachi

A tragic road accident in Bahria Town Karachi (BTK) claimed the life of a 58-year-old woman on Sunday night after she was struck by an overspeeding car, police reported on Monday.

According to Gadap City Station House Officer (SHO) Sarfraz Jatoi, the victim, identified as Rehana, was standing on main Jinnah Avenue inside the gated housing society with her daughter when she was hit by a speeding vehicle. The impact of the collision left her with severe injuries.

Emergency responders rushed her to Bahria International Hospital, but she was pronounced dead upon arrival due to the severity of her injuries.

Following the accident, Bahria Town Karachi security personnel intercepted the car and handed over the driver who ran over the woman to the police. Law enforcement officials shifted the victim’s body to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal formalities and a post-mortem examination.

The police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the driver under Sections 320 (Punishment for qatl-i-khata by rash or negligent driving) and 322 (Punishment for qatl-bis-sabab or unintentional killing by an unlawful act) of the Pakistan Penal Code. The case was filed based on a complaint by the victim’s son, Mohammed Shan.

Authorities have yet to confirm whether the driver was under the influence or driving recklessly at the time of the incident. Further investigations are underway.

This tragedy highlights growing concerns over traffic safety in Bahria Town Karachi, where past incidents have raised alarms. In October last year, two individuals lost their lives, and 22 others were injured when a mini-truck and a car collided in the same locality.

Residents have called for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, speed control measures, and increased patrolling to prevent similar accidents in the future.

Police have urged drivers to adhere to speed limits and drive responsibly to ensure public safety
