Security Forces Thwart Two Terrorist Attacks In Dera Ghazi Khan

Security forces successfully foiled two coordinated terrorist attacks in Dera Ghazi Khan (DG Khan) on Monday, forcing militants to retreat after a strong police and paramilitary response. The attacks, targeting security forces in different locations, were met with fierce resistance, leading to the terrorists’ withdrawal into mountainous terrain, police officials confirmed.

The first attack occurred in the Marha area during a joint search operation conducted by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and Pakistan Rangers. As security personnel advanced, militants opened fire, sparking an intense exchange. The security forces retaliated with heavy gunfire, compelling the assailants to retreat.

Shortly after, a second attack targeted the Lakhani border checkpost, where terrorists employed rocket launchers, hand grenades, and other sophisticated weaponry against security installations. Despite the onslaught, security forces successfully repelled the attack, forcing an estimated 15 to 20 militants to flee.

Authorities suspect the terrorists sustained significant casualties during the engagements, although precise figures remain unverified. Officials noted that intelligence reports suggest the militants belong to a well-organized network operating in the region.

In response, security forces intensified operations across Dera Ghazi Khan, deploying additional personnel to track down the fleeing terrorists. Aerial surveillance and intelligence-gathering efforts have been ramped up to identify potential hideouts and prevent further attacks.

Law enforcement agencies have urged local residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, assuring that measures are being taken to safeguard the region. Officials emphasized their commitment to eliminating terrorism and restoring lasting peace in the area.

These failed attacks highlight the persistent security challenges in southern Punjab, where law enforcement agencies have been engaged in counter-terrorism operations to neutralize extremist elements. Authorities have vowed to continue efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and prevent future attacks.
