Noor Zaman Makes History with U-23 Squash World Title for Pakistan

LAHORE  –  Noor Zaman, 21 years old squash sensation, secured the prestigious 2025 U-23 World Squash Championship title after a breathtaking comeback victory against Egypt’s Kareem El Torkey in the grand finale at the iconic DHA Creek Club in Karachi. The finalwitnessed Zaman showcasing exceptional grit, skill, and mental resilience to win 3-2 in a five-set thriller.

Noor Zaman, hailing from Peshawar, got off to a strong start by winning the opening set 11-6, but El Torkey bounced back with aggressive play to take the next two sets 11-9 and 11-4. Undeterred, Zaman clawed his way back into the match with a hard-fought 11-9 win in the fourth set and sealed the championship with a dominant 11-7 finish in the decider.

The final scoreline – 11-6, 9-11, 4-11, 11-9, 11-7 – was a proof of Zaman’s fighting spirit and ability to thrive under pressure. Cheered on by a passionate home crowd, he delivered a performance that not only clinched the trophy but also rekindled memories of Pakistan’s golden era in squash.

Zaman’s path to the final was equally impressive, overcoming top international talent including France’s Melvil Scianimanico, Poland’s Jakub Pytlowany, and Kuwait’s Hussain Alzaatari. Meanwhile, El Torkey’s journey featured an upset win over top seed Ibrahim Elkabbani in the semifinal, setting the stage for a gripping final showdown.

With this victory, Noor Zaman becomes the first Pakistani to lift the U-23 World Squash Championship trophy, reviving the country’s proud legacy once ruled by legends like Jahangir Khan, Jansher Khan and Qamar Zaman. His title triumph has been hailed as a new dawn for Pakistan squash, signaling the rise of a promising new generation. Speaking after the title victory, a jubilant Zaman dedicated the title to his nation. “This win is for Pakistan. The energy and support from the home crowd pushed me to give my best. The nation’s leadership was quick to applaud Noor Zaman’s remarkable feat. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated the young champion, calling his victory a source of immense pride for Pakistan. “Noor Zaman has brought international recognition to the country. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and high-ups of the Pakistan Squash Federation also extended their congratulations, calling Zaman a national asset. “This victory belongs not only to Noor but to the entire nation.It’s the result of hard work, discipline, and dedication.”They also commended his coaches and family for their support and hoped that this young talented star would help the country in regaining its lost squash glory. Punjab Sports Minister Faisal Ayub Khokhar and Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi and others joined in lauding the young star. “Noor has once again illuminated Pakistan’s name globally. He is a true inspiration for our youth and a reflection of the talent that lies within our nation,” they said in a joint statement. They also acknowledged the efforts of his coaches and the Pakistan Squash Federation, calling the victory a shining example of teamwork and perseverance. “Noor Zaman’s achievement proves what can be accomplished with passion, support, and consistent effort. He is the future of Pakistan squash.”
