German Institute For Human Rights Backs Acceptance of Afghan Refugees

The German Institute for Human Rights has expressed support for continuing the acceptance of Afghan refugees, urging the government to avoid deportations until Afghanistan’s human rights situation improves.

Hours before the arrival of a new flight carrying Afghan refugees to Berlin, the German Institute for Human Rights announced its continued support for the acceptance of Afghan refugees into the country.

The organization emphasized that the German government should refrain from deporting Afghan asylum seekers until the human rights situation in Afghanistan improves.

A plane carrying 155 Afghan nationals landed in Berlin on Tuesday morning, February 25. A spokesperson for the Federal Ministry of the Interior confirmed the flight’s arrival, according to the German news magazine Spiegel.

The most recent flight, carrying 132 Afghan refugees, landed in Berlin on Wednesday, March 5. The refugees were transported from Islamabad to Berlin as part of an ongoing initiative to provide refuge to vulnerable Afghan nationals.

The situation of Afghan refugees in Pakistan remains precarious, with many seeking resettlement in countries like Germany due to the ongoing instability and security threat in Afghanistan.

The situation for Afghan refugees in Pakistan remains dire, with many facing an uncertain future. Thousands of Afghans who fled their home country after the Taliban’s takeover in 2021 are living in precarious conditions, often without legal status or proper documentation. Many are at risk of deportation, as Pakistan has been tightening its policies regarding Afghan refugees.

Without resettlement to third countries like Germany, they face the constant threat of being forced back to Afghanistan, where security and human rights conditions remain volatile. This ongoing uncertainty heightens their vulnerability, making their transfer to countries offering refuge an urgent priority.
