Islamabad, April 14, 2025 (APP): The inaugural Overseas Pakistanis’ Convention commenced in Islamabad on Sunday, bringing together hundreds of expatriates from around the world for a three-day event aimed at fostering direct engagement with the government.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, currently in London, hailed the convention as a “historic” opportunity to connect with overseas Pakistanis, who play a crucial role in the nation’s economy. In a statement, he assured attendees that their concerns would be heard and addressed promptly.

Upon arrival, the delegates—numbering over 1,078 from 60 countries—were welcomed as state guests, with a dedicated facilitation desk set up at the airport. The event’s opening day featured a cultural food festival and folk music performances at Lok Virsa Heritage Museum.
Key government institutions, including NADRA, FIA, NAB, the Passport Office, the State Bank, and FBR, have established service stalls to assist expatriates with documentation, investment queries, and legal matters.
Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF) Chairman Qamar Raza emphasized the expatriate community’s significance as the “backbone of Pakistan’s economy,” highlighting their contributions through remittances and investments.
The formal inauguration is scheduled for Monday, with high-level discussions expected between delegates and senior officials.
