Afghanistan’s Security Improved, But Iran Wary of ISIS Presence

Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, has stated that security and sovereignty in Afghanistan have stabilized, but the threat from ISIS (Daesh) remains a serious concern for both Iran and the broader region.

Araqchi noted that the situation in Afghanistan has significantly changed, with a clear political power now established in the country. Unlike before, when various groups controlled different parts of Afghanistan, a unified governing structure has now emerged.

However, Araghchi emphasized that the threat of terrorism and the activities of ISIS in Afghanistan continue to pose a significant challenge, raising security concerns for Iran and the region. In contrast, the IEA administration has consistently denied the presence of ISIS within the country.

The IEA regime has repeatedly rejected claims of ISIS activity, asserting that the group does not have a significant base in Afghanistan and does not pose a major threat. They claim that their security forces have successfully countered ISIS operations and have suppressed the group.

Nevertheless, several international organizations, including the United Nations, have published reports indicating that ISIS remains active in certain regions of Afghanistan, carrying out multiple attacks. Iran, Russia, China, and other regional countries have also expressed concerns over ISIS’s ongoing presence and operations in Afghanistan.

The ongoing threat of ISIS remains a pressing issue for both regional security and international stability. Iran, alongside other regional powers, continues to monitor the situation closely, urging collective efforts to address the continuing threat posed by ISIS.
